Birds at Rest

One of my favorite things is sitting or walking outside in very early morning (or very late night, depending on your perspective) and listening to night sounds, under the moon and stars with a little chill in the air. It's very peaceful. And I've been working on "peaceful" posters tonight which is why I brought this up to begin with. Peace. And cats and birds.

I live with a cat named Leonis. I adore him. He is the most peaceful and loving being I know. He's a very big cat and his little brother is about half his size. Little brother is a little more aggressive :) Peace and aggression are interesting ideas when it comes to animals or animal nature. Why, when a cat is well fed, do they still hunt? Why do they play with and eventually kill birds when they aren't hungry?

A lot of bird lovers get understandably upset when talking about this because it seems cruel and unfair to birds. I've often heard bird lovers say there should be a quota for cats in any given area because of their impact on the bird population. I love birds and don't like to see them killed either and I try to prevent it as much as possible on our property. So I did a little painting a while back about birds and peace and my favorite time of night. I titled it Birds at Rest.

A day at the spa, with cats

For relaxation...spa treatments!
Everyone knows that people who live with pets tend to live longer than people without pets. And laughter is supposed to be good for your health and well being. My home with cats, 6 of them, is healthy on both counts-their daily lives provide humor, affection, and a lot of fodder for my work.

I recognize the gifts they offer every day: kneading, purring, head butts of affection, and lap warming among others. The only other place I know of that you can receive this wonderful attention is a day spa. And there you have to pay for all the feel goods. This poster is dedicated to cats everywhere, and to the people who love them.

Purrr.

It's her birthday tomorrow, which got me thinking about Spring birthdays and so the new birthday card idea! Here is a rabbit (think Easter and Spring :) with cupcake and birthday wishes for all of you who have birthdays in the months of March, April, and May. Hoppy Birthday!

Pet Loss

Losing a pet is one of the harder things we face in life. They are friends and family. They loved us unconditionally, gave us a chance to play like kids every day, looked forward to exercise even when we didn't, and greeted us with eagerness and joy when we came home. How can we not miss the love they offered us every day of their lives?

We can celebrate their life. A memorial is one way to pay tribute to a furry friend. Celebrating the life we've shared with a beloved animal reminds us of what we were gifted with and helps to ease the pain of losing that animal. The gift remains in memory forever.
